Iran Patent Overview
The patent can be registered in Iran through an electronic application to the Iran Intellectual Property Center of the State Organization for Registration of Dees and Properties. Iran's regulations on this matter include the Patent, Industrial Design and Trademark Registration Act (2009). Iran uses the first to file system.
Registration Process
The registration process is done through the Iranian Intellectual Property Center . After the application is done the next step is the Iranian examination process which includes a formal patent examination and a substantive patent examination.
Once the patent has been classified according to the International Patent Classification (IPC), the Intellectual office will proceed with the formal examination. If the application is incomplete, overseas applicants have 60 days to provide the required information.
Deadlines
After the formal examination is completed, the Iranian intellectual property center has 6 months to verify that the patent comforts with the provisions of the Patent, Industrial Design and Trademark Registration Act (2009).
If the application has an objection, the applicant has 120 days to submit evidences in support of the application.
If the registration is affirmative, a registration notice will be issued and published in the official gazette within 30 days of the affirmative acceptance. The patent certificate can be issued after the official publication.
Validity
Patent registered in Iran are valid for 5, 10, 15, or years depending on the option chosen by the applicant at the moment of the application.

Iran is member of multiple international conventions and agreements including the Madrid Agreement Concerning the international Registration of Marks and the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property. Iran Trademark registration process is specified in the law No. 16966 and dated May 31, 2003 which came into effect on June 15, 2003. The law allows registration of international classification system from class 35 to 45.
Registration Process
Applications are filed are the Iranian Trademark office . The application will be inspected in order to comfort on the absolute and relative grounds. The examination results will issue within 30 days, the results will be published in the trademark Gazette for opposition purposes. The opposition has to be completed 30 days after publication.
